Sustainable Packaging Procurement 2023

In another aspect of procurement efforts aimed at achieving long-term business sustainability, Premier Canning Industry Co., Ltd., a subsidiary, is committed to research and development in collaboration with reputable packaging manufacturers who share a dedication to sustainability goals. This is to ensure that the various packaging materials used in the company's production processes take into account social and environmental responsibility, promote maximum utilization, and enable the reduction of resource consumption. Through the efforts and cooperation of packaging manufacturers, the company has adopted new types of packaging that will continuously support the business's sustainability initiatives in the future.

Packaging is the most critical component of products, with a significant potential to cause environmental impact. In the past year 2023, the company collaborated with its business partners to trial and study the feasibility of using primary and secondary packaging developed by these partners to package products. Furthermore, the procurement, production, and quality control departments, along with business partners, jointly developed and designed packaging to achieve sustainable packaging and reduce environmental impact. This initiative was piloted with packaging used for the company's own brands and presented to interested customer groups. In the past year, the company has undertaken the following packaging development initiatives in collaboration with partners:

Packaging Development Plan with Partners:

  • Outer Box Packaging: Reduced paper grade and changed from 3-color printing to 1-color printing.
  • Product Label: Changed label coating from UV Coating to Water-based Coating.
  • Insert: Reduced the height of the insert to half the box, along with reducing paper weight and eliminating the use of inserts by changing the box design.
  • Pouch Packaging: Reduced the thickness of CPP (ALU Pouch) without affecting product safety and quality.
  • Inner Box Packaging: Reduced paper weight while maintaining the strength to support product weight.
