Nature Conservation & Restoration
Mivana Co., Ltd., in collaboration with the network of seven organic forest-conserving coffee community enterprises and government agencies in the area, fosters participation through nature conservation and restoration to mitigate the impacts of climate change (Climate Action). The primary operations involve growing coffee under the shade of trees and maintaining and protecting forests to reduce the risk of deforestation (Creating firebreaks) through continuous annual reforestation activities. In 2023, the company coordinated with local government agencies to procure 12,800 diverse seedlings for planting. This included 5,100 timber seedlings, such as Thai Sakura (Prunus cerasoides), Broken Bones Plant (Oroxylum indicum), and Orchid Tree (Bauhinia purpurea), and 7,700 fruit tree seedlings, including Indian Gooseberry (Phyllanthus emblica) and Java Plum (Syzygium cumini).
The organic coffee production process helps preserve the ecosystem in the headwater forest areas, preventing damage or contamination from chemicals that could potentially affect water users both within and outside the community. Therefore, the company collaborates with a network of seven organic forest-conserving coffee community enterprises and local government agencies under the "Mivana" organic forest-conserving coffee project. Currently, there are 256 members across the seven villages, covering an organic coffee production area of 4,230.57 rai, which has received international organic agriculture certification. In fiscal year 2024, the company implemented various development initiatives, such as reforestation for sustainable community livelihoods, wildfire prevention line construction, and check dam construction.
The project promotes participation through nature conservation and restoration to mitigate the impacts of climate change (Climate Action). In addition to the primary operation of growing coffee under shade trees, continuous reforestation activities have been organized for over 11 years (From 2014 to 2024) under the project "Plant Forests, Have Coffee, Have Forests: Creating Sustainable Community Livelihoods." In fiscal year 2024, the company coordinated with local government agencies, the Khun Lao Royal Project, and the Chiang Rai Tree Nursery Center to procure 14,700 diverse seedlings for the community to plant. This included 6,300 timber seedlings, such as Thai Sakura (Prunus cerasoides), Padauk (Pterocarpus macrocarpus), and Siamese Cassia (Senna siamea), and 8,200 fruit tree seedlings, including Indian Gooseberry (Phyllanthus emblica), among others.
These seedlings were distributed for planting across the seven villages in the Mivana organic forest-conserving coffee project, which includes Khun Lao Village, Huai Khun Phra Village, Rom Yen Village, Huai Khrai Village, Mai Pattana Village, Pha Daeng Luang Village, and Doi Chang Village.
